Memoir’44 is a fun, simple, fast-playing and engaging game. Memoir’44 was published by Days of Wonder to commemorate the 60th anniversary of D-Day.
Memoir’44 is designed to commemorate the efforts and sacrifices of the men and women of World War II. In addition, the game hopes to increase historical awareness of this period. This is done by informing players about history and encouraging them to look further.
In Memoir’44, players command their army of plastic miniatures over a board divided into three sections. In each battle, the historical terrain, placement of troops and the objectives of the armies are shown. Various cards determine which troops come into action this turn. A clever general uses the unique skills of his units – infantry, paratroopers, tanks, artillery, commandos and resistance fighters.
Memoir’44 is easy to learn and plays quickly, but it does require careful and strategic card management, a bit of luck with the dice and a flexible battle plan to achieve victory.
In our opinion, the game is best played on a board facing each other. If that is difficult, there is also the possibility to play the game online.
